Frequently Asked Questions
Understanding the Office
-
The Clerk of the District Court serves as the official record keeper for the District Court and is responsible for managing court records, processing legal filings, collecting fees, issuing court documents, managing jury functions, and providing customer service to the public, attorneys, judges, and justice system partners. The Clerk’s Office plays a vital role in ensuring cases move through the court accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with Nebraska law.
-
Although candidates for Clerk of the District Court appear on the ballot by political party, the responsibilities of the office are nonpartisan. I am running as a Republican, but I believe the Clerk’s responsibility is to serve every person fairly, professionally, and without regard to politics. The Clerk does not make laws, decide court cases, or set public policy. The job is to administer the court efficiently, maintain accurate records, serve the public, and carry out the duties required by law.
Throughout my career, I have worked with judges, attorneys, county officials, law enforcement, and community partners across political and professional lines to improve court programs and processes. That experience has taught me how to listen, build broad support, and focus on practical solutions. As Clerk, I would provide professional leadership and dependable service to everyone, regardless of political affiliation.

I have spent more than two decades working in Nebraska’s criminal justice system, including leadership positions with Lancaster County Community Corrections and my current role with the Nebraska Crime Commission. Throughout my career, I have worked closely with District Court judges, attorneys, court staff, law enforcement, probation, treatment providers, and community organizations. My work has given me a thorough understanding of court operations and the importance of accurate, timely administration.
-
My career has centered on Nebraska’s justice system. I have worked extensively with District Court judges, County Court judges, county attorneys, defense attorneys, probation, law enforcement, and community providers. I have managed court-related programs, overseen public funding, developed policies, and implemented operational improvements. Those experiences have prepared me to understand the needs of the Clerk’s Office and lead effectively from the first day.
-
Leadership is about serving others, building strong teams, solving problems, and making thoughtful decisions. I have learned that building relationships, listening to employees, collaborating with partners, planning for the future, and focusing on continuous improvement lead to better outcomes for both staff and the public.
Priorities and Leadership
-
My priorities are straightforward:
Increase transparency and accountability.
Improve customer service for everyone who interacts with the office.
Continue modernizing technology and business processes.
Ensure court records are managed accurately and securely.
Use taxpayer dollars responsibly while supporting employees with the tools and training they need to succeed.
-
One of the biggest challenges is balancing growing workloads with limited resources while continuing to provide excellent customer service. My approach would focus on improving operational efficiency, investing in employee development, using technology effectively, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement so the office can meet future demands without sacrificing service.
-
Integrity means treating every person fairly, following the law, protecting confidential information, being transparent, managing public resources responsibly, and earning the trust of the public every day. The Clerk’s Office must be an organization people can depend on for accuracy, professionalism, and accountability.
Improving Court Operations
-
Reducing delays starts with well-trained, confident staff, clear procedures, and technology that supports the work. I will review existing workflows, eliminate unnecessary steps, and give employees the training and resources they need to process filings accurately and promptly. I will also encourage staff to identify problems and recommend practical improvements so the office can continuously improve its service to the courts and the public.
-
Technology should make government easier to use, not more complicated. I will evaluate opportunities to improve internal workflows, expand electronic services where appropriate, reduce unnecessary paperwork, and ensure systems remain reliable, secure, and user-friendly.
-
Transparency and privacy must go hand in hand. I support making public records as accessible as the law allows while maintaining strict compliance with Nebraska laws protecting confidential information. Technology should improve access without compromising security or public trust.
-
Many people visit the Clerk’s Office during stressful situations and without an attorney. While Clerk’s Office employees cannot provide legal advice, they can provide respectful customer service, explain court procedures, and help people understand available forms and processes. I want every person who visits the office to leave knowing they were heard and treated with professionalism, patience, and respect.
-
Good customer service begins with listening and empathy. I will focus on clear communication, easy-to-understand information, and simpler processes so people know what to expect and where to go for help. I will also ensure staff have the training and resources they need to assist visitors professionally, patiently, and respectfully.
-
Strong relationships are essential to an effective court system. Throughout my career, I have worked collaboratively with judges, attorneys, county officials, law enforcement agencies, probation, and community organizations. I believe in open communication, professionalism, mutual respect, and working together to solve problems and improve service for the public.
Serving the Public
-
Every tax dollar should be managed carefully and responsibly. I have extensive experience overseeing public budgets and understand the importance of accuracy, accountability, transparency, and long-term planning. I will focus on giving employees the training, support, and clear procedures they need to work efficiently, while also identifying opportunities to streamline workflows and use technology where it provides meaningful, long-term value. This approach will reduce unnecessary costs, improve services, and help create a stable, positive workplace.
-
Managing limited resources has long been a part of my career. If faced with a budget reduction, I would carefully review operations to identify efficiencies before considering any reduction in services. I would work with employees to improve workflows, maximize the value of existing technology, eliminate unnecessary expenses, and prioritize the core functions that directly serve the courts and the public.
